Digi-Key Expanding Thief River Falls, Minnesota HQ With 1 Million Square Foot Distribution Center
Digi-Key Electronics, a leader in the global electronics components distribution space, is commencing expansion on a new facility at their headquarters in April 2018.
Construction, as noted by the Duluth News Tribune, is anticipated to take approximately three to four years to complete.
In 2017, the distributor realized growth that exceeded expectations, with sales amounting to $2.3 Billion, as revealed by Dave Doherty, Digi-Key President and COO, in the company’s press release. This press release notes that the “initial investment is projected at more than $300 Million.” The project will be the largest of its kind for Digi-Key to-date, as stated by the Duluth News Tribune, and per the company’s press release, is anticipated to bring $500 Million in economic development into the area.
Like Partstat, Digi-Key views its employees as integral to its success. “The workforce is really what makes our growth possible,” says Rick Trontvet, Vice President of Administration, to the Duluth News Tribune article. He goes on to reveal that the company’s employees, “combined with a proven business model,” are what have positioned the company for greatness.
To align with the anticipated continuation of revenue growth worldwide, more team members will soon be needed. According again to The Duluth News Tribune, the company aims to add at least 100 new jobs per year over the next 10 years.
The Duluth News Tribune notes that Digi-Key’s Thief River Falls headquarters presently has over 3,300 employees. A branch facility in Fargo, ND has 150 employees, and approximately 60 contractors and IT employees are at the Bloomington, MN location. The company also has remote field sales employees across the country. The majority of Digi-Key’s global employees work at contracted sales offices or at the company’s wholly-owned subsidiaries in Munich, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
